Three Tips for Women Who Want Their Clothes to Fit Better

Posted on: 18 October 2018

Looking nice in your clothes is not just a matter of buying the right size, silhouette, or fabric. Sometimes you need extra help to make sure your clothes fit the way you want and flatter your figure, regardless of your size or shape. Here are some tips to help you look good.

Start with Good Undergarments

The foundation for any clothing item is your basic undergarments. Both your bra and panties should be the right style and size to fit your body. Ideally, you should go to a department store or other retailer that has professional bra fittings. The sales associates can help you determine the right size and a style that will help fix common problems women face, such as bulges on the sides and back, cups that have gaps or cause spill-over, and gaps in button-up shirts. You should pay attention to the style of your panties since they can create unflattering lines. If you prefer to wear thongs or similar styles but do not have a flatter stomach, make sure to choose panties that provide more coverage in the front.

Integrate Shapewear

Shapewear is a prized secret for many women because it can smooth rolls and cellulite that can cause certain clothing items to fit poorly. If you choose to purchase shapewear, you should consider investing in different pieces designed to compliment various outfits. The most basic piece of shapewear looks like a one-piece bathing suit. It helps to smooth your back, abdomen, and buttocks. Other pieces that are helpful include items that are styled like a tank top and those that look like shorts, capris, or leggings. Some styles are all-in-one and look more like a jumpsuit. The fabric of your shapewear will affect the amount of smoothing and compression. If you do not need much control, thinner, pantyhose fabric can work well. Women with more obvious trouble areas or who are plus-size often benefit from thicker fabric with more control.

Create an Illusion

Many of the products designed as shapewear also function to create the illusion of a different body shape. You might want to invest in a bra that has underwire and padding to make your bust look bigger and fuller, which can create the illusion of a smaller waist. Many women also want shapelier buttocks and can achieve this look with foam padded panties. Some of these panties also have padding in the hips to create more volume overall on your bottom half. When you combine a little padding with shapewear to smooth your waist, you can create the illusion of a pear or hourglass shape. If you choose padded panties, you will need to be mindful of the clothing you wear. Padding generally looks better with dresses or skirts that hug your curves without compressing the underlying padding. If you will wear pants, such as tight jeans, they could potentially distort the padding, causing odd shapes or lumps.

Regardless of your shape or size, investing in appropriate undergarments can improve most clothing challenges.
